This book ‘Dance Theatre by Thanjavur Maratha Rajas’ is an outcome of the research for National Tagore Fellowship awarded to Indumati Raman in 2018/19. This book includes the forgotten history of Thanjavur Maratha Rajas and their contribution to our Dance, Music and Theatre. The history and the journey of the theatre tradition of Maharashtra has its origin in Thanjavur when Sahaji Raje Bhosle II wrote the first ever musical play in Marathi.

The English translation, transliteration, and annotation for two Marathi yakshaganams adds great value to the content. The play of the Yakshaganams is in Marathi and Sanskrit and includes poetry in various meters, dialogue and Darus. It is time for the rich literature hidden for centuries to be offered to global theatre connoisseurs.
